Use Color and Make Your Room Look Great

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

For those of you who have lived in your home for years, you may feel that it’s finally time for an update? When you’ve had the same colors and accents for a long time, you may feel that you want a change. Perhaps you’re finding that your kitchen and living area have begun looking tired and drab. You may not be able to afford a home makeover, but you do have other options.

Spruce up your home using vibrant colors and add a few new accents. You’ll be amazed by the difference! While this won’t cost you a bundle of money, your home will look as if you spent just that.

In the Living Room
The look of your living room should be appealing, especially considering that this is a place family and friends love to congregate and enjoy each other’s company. If you’ve been stuck on contemporary or modern décor for years, you may want to consider doing something a little more bold. So instead of the black, beige, and tan you usually incorporate into your designs, it’s time to be a little more daring.

You can create a look that’s fresh, energizing, and demand attention with vibrant blues, tropical greens, and luscious peaches. Start with a light shade of celery green on the walls. Then create some contrast by painting baseboards, doors, and other small areas a dark forest green. Create some real interest with bright botanical prints and maybe even a few fruity- or tropical-scented candles. With a little silk greenery casually displayed in clear glass vaseson a arts & crafts coffee table, you will have created an entirely new look for the room.

Never be afraid to add boldly patterned throw pillows to solid-colored furniture. You can add interest and originality by mixing floral designs, stripes, and plaids. You can create an amazing look, as long as they all contain similar colors.

Add Pizzazz in the Kitchen & Dining Room
The best way to deal with a kitchen and dining room that look a little worn out and drab is to add more color. Coordinate the color theme with what you’re doing in the living room. This is especially important if these areas run together. Citrus colors are the perfect fit for the kitchen. Add some bright curtains to the windows. Sunflowers, strawberries, and other bright-hued prints can really infuse this room with energy.

Put a brightly colored runner down the center of your wood dining table. Then add a straw basket filled with fruit. Paint the walls in the dining area a vibrant color. You can then add splashes of excitement by applying contrasting colors using a feather duster. See where your imagination takes you. Any accent or idea will work, as long as it’s bright and cheery.

In end, the point of all this is to make your rooms in your home come alive. For years, you have been living with the same dull and boring colors day after day. The time has come to add vibrancy and excitement to your décor. When you combine many bright, bold colors, you add some depth to a décor that makes a room look much more interesting. You’ll find that accents and furniture stand out, instead of blending together and getting lost in a sea of white. In the end, every area of the room takes on a life of its own.

So go for the gusto and don’t hold back! With bright, energetic colors, you can give your home not only a brand-new look but an exciting feel as well. Say goodbye to those rooms with no personality, and go for drama and flair. You’ll find that you have a feeling of renewed energy and vitality every time you enter your home.
